The Prototype

Het prototype, product in wording, gestolde gedachte of onderzoek naar falen? Of misschien alle drie? 

In de avond ‘The Prototype’ onderzoeken we de rol van prototypes in het ontwerpproces. Ontwerpers Alexander Groenewege, Shaakira Jassat en Rebecca Potger gaan in gesprek met moderator Yassine Salihine en het publiek over hoe zij het prototype inzetten en gebruiken. Iedere ontwerper neemt een prototype mee en aan de hand daarvan gaan we dit fenomeen onderzoeken. Hoe “af” moet het prototype zijn? Hoeveel zijn er nodig? Bewaar je prototypes? Voor wie is het prototype? 

Deze en andere vragen passeren de revue op deze avond, waarbij er uiteraard ruimte is voor interactie met het publiek. We zien je graag in Leeszaal West op 29 maart!

Over Alexander Groenewege
Zelfstandig industrieel ontwerper. Hij ontwerpt zowel consumentenproducten voor dagelijks gebruik als high end gebruiksgoederen en productiemiddelen. Groenewege werkt voor opdrachtgevers in het mkb, zoals start-up’s, maar ook voor multinationals, binnen en buiten Nederland. 
Ontwerpschetsen zeggen lang niet altijd genoeg. Prototypes bouwt hij dan om tegemoet te komen aan ons voorstellingsvermogen.

Over Shaakira Jassat:
Oprichter en creatief directeur bij Studio Sway. Shakira is geboren en getogen in Zuid-Afrika, nu woonachtig in Nederland. Haar voormalige werkzaamheden op het gebied van interieurarchitectuur, samen met het opgroeien in een jonge democratie in Zuid-Afrika, heeft haar huidige werk getekend. In Jassat's recent projecten richt ze zich op voedsel, ecologische hulpbronnen, architectuur en samenleving, na een intensieve droogte in Kaapstad tussen 2015 en 2018. Haar onderzoeksmethoden variëren van 'on and off field' tot multidisciplinair experimenteel onderzoek.

Over Rebecca Potger:
Studeerde architectuur aan de Hogeschool Rotterdam en industrieel product ontwerpen aan de Design Academy Eindhoven, waar zij in 2005 cum laude afstudeerde. Haar eigen ontwerpbureau Potgerdesign ruilde zij in 2016 in voor de functie van product/concept designer bij Brabantia. Zij is dan ook vertrouwd met de creatie van prototypes in verschillende stadia van het ontwerpproces.

The prototype, product in the making, solidified thought, or investigation of failure? Or perhaps all three? 

In the evening "The Prototype" we will explore the role of prototypes in the design process. Designers Alexander Groenewege, Shaakira Jassat en Rebecca Potger will talk to moderator Yassine Salihine and the audience about how they deploy and use the prototype. Each designer will bring a prototype and we will use it to explore this phenomenon. How "finished" should the prototype be? How many are needed? Do you keep prototypes? Who is the prototype for? 

These and other questions will be discussed during this evening, with of course room for interaction with the audience. We look forward to seeing you in Leeszaal West on 29 March!

About Alexander Groenewege
Independent industrial designer. He designs consumer products for every day use, high-end consumer goods and production supplies as well. Groenewege works for clients in the SME sector, such as start-ups, but also for multinationals, within and outside the Netherlands. 
Design drawings do not say enough, very often. He’s building prototypes in different colors then, to support our imagination.

About Shaakira Jassat:
Founder and Creative Director at Studio Sway. Shaakira was born and raised in South Africa, now living in the Netherlands. Her previous profession in the Interior Architecture field, together with growing up in a young democracy in South Africa plays a role in informing her work. In Jassat's latest projects she focuses on food, ecological resources, architecture and society, following an intensive drought in Cape Town between 2015 and 2018. Her research methods range from being on and off field all the way to multidisciplinary experimental research.

About Rebecca Potger:
Studied architecture at the Hogeschool Rotterdam and industrial product design at the Design Academy Eindhoven, where she graduated cum laude in 2005. She exchanged her own design agency Potgerdesign in 2016 for the position of product/concept designer at Brabantia. She is therefore familiar with the creation of prototypes at different stages of the design process.
