Fashion in Flux Showcase #1
FEELING FASHION
Sunday June 2 2024, 15:00 - 19:00 uur
@Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam
Does sustainable fashion exist? Ghanaian visual artist Sel Kofiga (founder
@kumfodomfo
f.k.a. The Slum Studio) does not think so. He does believe in sustainable relationships between makers, wearers, materials and land. Kofiga: “Producing sustainable relationships relies mostly on understanding the implications of what we wear, that’s what I’m interested in.”
From 2 to 7 June, Sel Kofiga will visit The Netherlands to connect with the Dutch fashion network. For this occasion, Fashion in Flux teamed up with
Branko Popovic
(artistic director of
FASHIONCLASH) to curate an afternoon inspired by Kofiga’s vision and work.
Alongside new textile work by Kofiga, the event will showcase creations by emerging fashion makers who are also interested in the relationships hidden within the fabric of clothing:
Jelena Bondt,
Povis (Povilas Gegevicius)
en
Tevin Blancheville.
To make their stories even more tangible, performers are invited to gently connect the audience with the garments without seeing or touching them:
Lester David,
Hélene Vrijdag,
Kimberley Agyarko,
Lui Montes (Unwanted Words)
