WAT HOUDT DEZE TWEEDE TOEKOMSTWANDELING IN? 🔥

Nogmaals: neem de tijdmachine en wees welkom in het jaar 2108! Deze wandeling een vervolg op de stadswandeling van 2 september j.l. die eindigde bij de replica van Het Depot van Museum Boijmans. Daar eindigde die dag de tentoonstelling van artefacten van ruim 85 jaar geleden die zijn opgedoken tijdens opgravingen rond de ruïne van het oude Boijmans Depot. Met trots presenteert het Internationaal Bureau voor de Wederopbouw een aangepaste stadstour, geïnitieerd vanuit Museum of 21st Century Design (M21D) aangevuld door The Incredible Shrinking Man (TISM). Tot onze vreugde zijn wij nu een stuk verfijnder dan mensen uit het begin van de vorige eeuw: hooguit meten wij 50 centimeter, simpelweg door een punt te zetten achter groeihormonen.

Als onderdeel van jouw ontdekkingstocht via M21D laten we je de stad Rotterdam zien en vertellen we je meer over hoe onze slungelige of plompe voorouders leefden en ontdekken we meer over wat het verleden inhield en hoe we nu onze toekomst vormgeven. Ga je met ons mee?


WAAR ONTMOETEN WE ELKAAR EN WAAR EINDIGEN WE? 🔥

Centraal Station onder de ''Sunny Cloud'' van John Körmeling. We lopen vervolgens via Kruisplein, Westersingel, Eendrachtsplein Metro richting Het Nieuwe Instituut (Jonkindstraat) en eindbestemming Boijmans Depot.
 
OVER WILLIAM MYERS

William is een Amsterdamse curator en docent met meer dan 20 jaar ervaring in de culturele sector, waaronder een decennium bij het Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Myers is de auteur van Biodesign (MoMA, 2018) en Bioart (Thames & Hudson, 2015) en organisator van meer dan 16 tentoonstellingen over uiteenlopende onderwerpen, van het potentieel van biotechnologie om een revolutie teweeg te brengen in design tot de impact van kunstmatige intelligentie op creatieve praktijken. William heeft wereldwijd lezingen gegeven aan onderwijsinstellingen en heeft gewerkt voor onder andere het Guggenheim Museum, MIT Museum, Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, RISD, Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, Vitra Design Museum, Science Galleries in Dublin en Rotterdam, TU Delft en MU Artspace in Eindhoven. OVER ARNE HENDRIKS

Kunstenaar en onderzoeker Arne Hendriks richt zich in zijn werk meer op het proces dan op het eindresultaat. Geduldig geleid door de bevindingen van zijn onderzoek, staat hij zichzelf toe om voortdurend overtuigingen en perspectieven te verschuiven en nieuwe realiteiten te ontdekken binnen zijn onderwerp. Arne staat bekend om zijn werk The Incredible Shrinking Man. Een speculatief ontwerponderzoek over de gevolgen van het verkleinen van de menselijke soort tot 50 centimeter. Het is al lang een trend dat mensen groter worden. Als direct gevolg daarvan hebben we meer energie, meer voedsel en meer ruimte nodig. Maar wat als we zouden besluiten om deze trend om te keren? Wat als we onze kennis gebruiken om de mens te laten krimpen?

WHAT IS THIS SECOND FUTURE WALK ABOUT? 🔥

Again: take the time machine and be welcomed to the year 2108! This walk is a continuation of the city walk of September 3rd which ended at the Depot of Museum Boijmans. That's where the exhibition of artifacts ended that day from over 85 years ago that have turned up during excavations around the ruins of the old Boijmans Depot. The International Bureau for Reconstruction is proud to present a custom city tour, initiated by the Museum of 21st Century Design (M21D) and complemented by The Incredible Shrinking Man (TISM). To our delight, we are now a lot more refined than people from the beginning of the last century: at most we measure 50 centimeters, simply by putting an end to growth hormones.

As part of your exploration through M21D, we will show you the city of Rotterdam and tell you more about how our lanky or plump ancestors lived and discover more about what the past was and how we are now shaping our future. Are you coming with us?

William is an Amsterdam-based curator and educator with over 20 years experience in the cultural sector, including a decade at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Myers is the author of Biodesign (MoMA, 2018) and Bioart (Thames & Hudson, 2015) and organizer of more than 16 exhibitions on topics ranging from biotechnology's potential to revolutionize design to the impact of artificial intelligence on creative practices. In his work, artist and researcher Arne Hendriks focuses more on the process than on the end result. Patiently guided by the findings of his research, he allows himself to continually shift beliefs and perspectives and discover new realities within his subject. Arne is known for his work The Incredible Shrinking Man. A speculative design study on the consequences of shrinking the human species to 50 centimeters. It has long been a trend for people to get taller. As a direct result, we need more energy, more food and more space. But what if we decided to reverse this trend? What if we use our knowledge to shrink humans?
